Cramer and Marc's Wedding at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

Oh my goodness, when these two babes were greeted in the parking lot by their parents and grandmother with whoops and claps, hugs and kisses, I knew we were going to have a blast. We didn’t have a specific plan, we just knew to meet at the gardens and we’d figure out the rest. (my favorite plan)

After looking at the various gorgeous options Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens had to offer, we decided the Orchid Conservatory was the best spot for the ceremony. We were surrounded by gorgeous flowers, butterflies and tiny frogs. And considering Cramer already had a tiny frog on his Mindy Lam Boutonnière, it was the perfect choice.

After the sweetest vows, we all erupted in cheers for the happy babes, signed the marriage certificate and strolled around the gardens for the rest of the photos. These two were playful, stylish and and super excited to celebrate with their family afterwards.

They shared a quick first dance in front of the conservatory then made their way to dinner where the rest of the family was waiting to celebrate with them. Highly recommend renting the gardens on a Monday for your sweet ceremony. Daniel Stowe reserves the gardens just for this purpose every week.

Thank you guys for trusting me with your memories!! Cheers!

Arianna and Mark's Wedding at the Historic Wakefield Barn

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

With so many of my recent weddings having to relocate or postpone due to the damage from Hurricane Helene, it was lovely showing up to Historic Wakefield Barn, as planned, with no last minute changes. I’ve been looking forward to capturing these babes for years now as I captured Arianna’s sister Halee’s wedding several years ago, followed by Arianna and her brother Dylan’s senior photos. As it turns out, she and Mark had already met and would become high school and college sweethearts!

They chose to have a first look with each other before the day began and also Arianna with her father, and Mark with his parents. It was a very sweet and heartfelt way to begin the day, then their crews joined them for some fun shenanigans to hype them up and we got the party started.

Earlier that morning they both wrote love letters to each other and during the ceremony placed the letters inside a box with wine to be opened on their anniversary. Such a beautiful forethought for their continued relationship together in the future. After the ceremony, they took a quick photo with Lola the mini horse then shared some private vows in the bridal suite. Their nearly 10 years together was evident in every word.

A night filled with joy, laughter, a few tears and a sparkler exit to send them on their way! Wouldn’t have missed it for anything! Love you guys!

Caitlin and Brett's Wedding at Legacy Stables and Events

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain
— Vivian Greene
Legacy Stables and Events wedding

When Hurricane Helene swept devastation across our beautiful mountains two weeks before Caitlin and Brett’s wedding, it made their original venue inaccessible, however, they didn’t skip a beat. These two joy bombs reached out to their family and friends who all got to work to help them find another off the mountain. They had already planned the entire wedding themselves without a coordinator, and they had to do it all over again, but much faster. Luckily Legacy Stables in Winston Salem had an opening for their date and welcomed them with open arms and we were all so glad they did, just look at this gorgeous venue!

They had to find new hotels for all their guests and make sure their original vendors could make the drive off mountain, but they did so with such grace and kindness, first making sure everyone was ok and understanding entirely if the drive was not possible. They were a joy to work with every step of the way.

After their first look, they brought in their sweet babe Ollie for a few portraits, then their wedding party joined to get them hyped up to walk down the aisle. Everyone had a blast and showered them with love.

In nearly 20 years of capturing weddings, I’m not sure how it’s possible I’ve never seen this before, but they surprised everyone, including me, when Ethan, their ring bearer, walked down they aisle in full bear costume! Once it dawned on everyone why (ring bear), the whole room erupted in laughter and pure joy. After their beautiful, heartfelt vows and a few tears, they encouraged every guest to join them for a group photo before heading to cocktail hour. Everyone was so happy to oblige.

We whisked them away for a few sunset portraits right as the sun dipped behind the trees and then they were off to the dance floor ready to celebrate the happiest of days. We paused for a quick happy birthday to her father (she had asked all the guests to sign the card… so thoughtful) and then back to dancing. It was a perfect day.

Thank you so much for including us in your special day!

Jessica and Corey's Wedding at Twickenham House and Hall

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

It’s not often I get to capture a wedding in the middle of the week, but this Wednesday wedding at Twickenham House was an absolute delight. The hurricane that bore down on the area all week cleared literally just a couple hours before the ceremony, all the fog it brought with it lifted and we had the most beautiful day anyone could ask for.

Jessica chose to wear her mother’s wedding dress with a few alterations and it fit like a glove. Her father loved it so much and said she looked just as beautiful as her mother 37 years prior. As an extra special feature, her mom and sister sewed into the dress her “something blue.” They created a lace pocket with the leftover train material to place a photo of her Nana and Zadie wearing blue. Every guest who caught a peek went wild with love for them both.

Corey was a bit more quite and thoughtful during the preparations. As I hadn’t met him before today I wasn’t sure if this would remain his style all day, but I was blown away when the ceremony was over. He and Jessica danced their way through photos, climbed to the highest peak for the perfect shot, ran and skipped their way down to the shuttle and entered cocktail hour wildly in love and ready to party!

Together these two brought the party with them everywhere they went. Dragging friends into the photobooth and onto the dance floor, back to the patio for a quick drink then onto the dance floor again. They were showered with love and celebration by everyone and it was an absolutely unforgettable night.

You guys I cannot thank you enough for trusting me with your special day! Let’s do it again soon!

Lisa and Mike's Wedding at The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

I met Lisa at Deanna and William’s wedding in 2022 and we hit it off right away. The cheeriest little babe ever, and so happy to help with anything and everything. When she messaged about the wedding I said yes right away! Then seeing her with Mike at their engagement session, I knew they were meant to be, the perfect balance to each other. She encouraged him to be silly with her and live in the moment while he was steadfast and grounding. We pulled into Moses Cone Memorial Park, right as the black clouds were rolling but we knew we could beat them! So we jumped around the various spots as quick as we could, having an absolute blast and finished just in time! It definitely helped prepare us for the hurricane baring down this weekend!

Our babes stayed positive and excited all week, while making the necessary precautions just in case the storm hit hard, but to our delight the clouds just rolled passed. The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden luckily has several incredibly beautiful indoor locations to work with so we weren’t concerned about the pending storm, just a little bummed. Saturday morning, however, Lisa was just as bright and bubbly as she was when I first met her. And Mike is so chill, I don’t think anything could upset him. Fortunately we were able to follow the plan exactly and the sun came out making an already perfect day simply magical.

After a sweet first look with her father we made our way to the Conservatory so our babes could share a first look and private vow reading. All nerves were washed away as they shared their hearts with each other, laughed about inside jokes, lipstick and the giant machines trimming trees right where they planned to meet.

Next up the wedding party and family joined for photos, hyped them up, laughed, joked and touched up their final details preparing them for the ceremony and party to follow.

His dad officiated a beautiful ceremony speaking of their growth together through the years, conflict resolution beyond their years and fun competition along the way. Their siblings shared moving readings while every guest grew to love them even more.

After some fun toasts and formal dances the party really started! Chad with Split Second Sound read the room perfectly and the dance floor stayed full for FOUR fun filled hours! (in case you’ve not been to 400 weddings like I have, dance floors tend to wane after 2-3 hours, 4 is super impressive!)

As the night came to a close, we snuck away for a few private photos, they shared a sweet final dance and made it to the sparklers right as they blew out! Lol! But that only made everyone laugh harder and celebrate louder. These babes have an incredible crew around them and it was an honor to be a part of such a special day!

Meghanne and Dan's Wedding at Fort Fisher Aquarium

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

These two adventurous babes love hiking and all things outdoors. (My favorite kind of course) When I first met Dan it was to hike to the very specific proposal spot he had in mind at Table Rock. It was off the main trail and I honestly never would have found it without the pre-hike but boy does he know how to choose them! Vast views of the gorge and an incredible rock outcropping. When the day arrived, however, the fog so so thick you could barely see 10 feet in front of you. No matter, we stayed the course and had an incredible, unique experience anyway. They chose to spread the ashes of their beloved dog Rilla that day as well, making the memory extra special.

As recounted during the reception dinner, Dan’s first big gift to Meghanne when they were dating was to replace the faux pearl earrings she always wore with real ones. They became a special symbol of their relationship after that so she covered the getting ready robe, the dress and bouquet in pearls. And wore the special earrings of course. (Which she *may or may not have forgotten in Colorado and had to have a friend go on a search and rescue mission before the wedding.) ;)

The whole family participated in making the big day happen. (Including the groom!) From cooking the lasagna meal for the rehearsal dinner to the short ribs and mashed potatoes for the reception as well as dozens of cookies. Their dear friend Kyle officiated and her dog trainer friend Ale managed her sweet service dog Shiloh the whole day.

After the father-daughter first look, we drove to the maritime forest nearby for the couple’s first look and all the portraits, and while the rain continued to drizzle on us, everyone kept high spirits and celebrated with them without complaint.

Meg and Dan had their first date at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher and thought it would be perfect for the ceremony. The guests had so much fun wandering around the exhibits before and after the ceremony.

After the main wedding festivities were complete, we drove back to the beach for some fun trash the dress photos, but it was already pitch dark outside so we elicited the help of the wedding party to shine lights for us as we climbed the rock barrier. With high tide in full force we couldn’t reach the beach, but it didn’t matter, the smashing waves made for some epic photos on the rocks. It was a perfect day filled with an incredible group of family and friends.

Tori and Zach's Wedding in Lake Anna, Virginia

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again
— Charles Dickens

Oh my goodness, where to even begin? An incredible linking of families brought me to this perfect weekend. Let’s see if I can remember the order correctly.

I met the Sloane family first, and fell in love with Brittany as she was a budding photographer. We became fast friends and began second shooting weddings for each other and a few years later I captured her younger sister Lauren’s wedding in Georgia. There I met her bridesmaid and cousin, Bri who flew me out to Colorado to capture her wedding the following year. There I met Bri’s brother and future sister-in-law, Taylor, who had me back down to Georgia for their big day the following year. Tori is the cousin of Josh, Taylor’s husband…and well, you get the idea. We find ourselves in Virginia this weekend and I couldn’t be happier. Tori and Zach’s crew know how to throw a party!

Everything began with a full hibachi dinner on the lawn of the lake house. Complete with sake water guns, egg throwing and of course fire.

Everyone eased into Saturday morning with brunch, games, swimming and preparing for the ceremony. The house was filled with an excited buzz and tons of laughter.

After their ceremony on the lawn with the family, Zach and Tori chose to read private vows to each other on the dock. They both knew they’d be a mess and didn’t want to hold back. They are absolutely precious together and have been through so much in their time together, it was the perfect way to seal the day.

As evening fell, the lake and sky decided to show off and we were even graced with a surprise fireworks show from across the lake! We ran as fast as we could to capture a couple shots!

Sunday the happy couple treated everyone to a day on the lake and it was a perfect closing to an incredible weekend. These two are dearly loved by their crew and everyone was overjoyed to celebrate them.

You guys thank you so much for including me in your special day!!

Ashley and Cam's Wedding at The Little Chapel

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

Where do I even begin? I have been capturing Ashley’s family for at least 10 years. Senior portraits and headshots for all three sisters.,Christmas Parties and family events for her parents, her sister Jessica’s Wedding, her aunt Colleen’s wedding and now her big day. It’s hard not to feel like a part of the family when you’ve experienced so many special milestones together.

For their engagement session in February they chose to use the venue location. And while it was the middle of winter and the greenhouse was still under construction, the space did not disappoint. We exictedly talked about all big plans to come. Fast forward to this weekend…

Cameron and Ashley decided to share private vows before the ceremony so they met in the field in between the the two houses where they were each getting ready. The tension had been rising all morning, as it does at every wedding. But it was instantly released the moment they saw each other, share a hug and reminded each other why they were here.

With the recent passing of Ashley’s sweet father, there were many moments where mom stepped in. She walked her down the aisle and danced the first dance. Her sisters too were there to fill the void and we all felt his presence during speeches and cheers. We all knew he was so proud looking down from his front row seat all day.

Our happy couple now shares a wedding anniversary with her sweet grandparents and they honored them and all the married couples with a special dance during the reception.

Then things got a little rowdy. In the best way possible. Ashley’s brother-in-law Tyler and Cameron battled it out to give her a lap dance. Everyone passed around the bourbon direct from the bottle, cigars came out along with late night french fries and the evening was a complete success.

You guys! Thank you for welcoming me into your family so long ago! I look forward to all the future celebrations! Until next time!!

Jen and Justin's Spring Wedding at Overlook Barn

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for a newer and richer experience
— E. Roosevelt

I didn’t have a chance to meet Jen and Justin before the big day, but it didn’t matter, from the moment we started chatting, we knew we’d be a perfect fit. They LOVE the mountains just as much as I do but also live in Raleigh, my second love. They love all things outdoors and aren’t afraid to bust a move on the dance floor. As they always vacation in Banner Elk, it was very special for them to get married here and Overlook Barn never disappoints.

Justin proposed on the same day they closed on their first home together and they both reminisced about it during the private vows. Sweet Justin was nearly bursting at the seams before this moment, but after they had time to share their love and a few stories from the morning, everything shifted and only excitement filled the air. Jen kept repeating she was ready to get started. So off we went!

The winds were picking up just as everyone lined up for the ceremony and it took a whole team of friends, family and Elegant Events Staff to hold the Arbor in place. It only served to add to the adventure of it all though. We got them down the aisle and all the guests secured in the barn before the rains came.

The fog was rolling in hard the night before but we weren’t concerned. I’ve managed mountain top fog many times. When it shifted to black clouds right before the Mr. and Mrs. portraits I looked at Jen and said we can see if it passes and risk it never stopping…or make a run for it.

Obviously we ran.

Rain turned to hail and hail turned to a rainbow. We were all soaked from head to toe but filled with great big belly laughs. Her dress must have gained an extra 15 pounds with the water weight but she took it like a champ then skipped off to the dance floor!

Fortunately the rain stopped, and as the fog rolled back in, it brought with it the Northern Lights!! We couldn’t see them in their entirety, but very much appreciated the pop of color! We ran back and forth between Jen’s favorite songs and a new color in the sky!

What an incredible adventure this weekend turned out to be! All four seasons in one day! 10/10 would do it again next weekend!

Sonia and Michael's Wedding at the Oaks at Salem

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
Love is an endless mystery, for it has nothing else to explain it
— Rabindranath Tagore

Michael and Sonia met at a Jazz Bar on Bourbon street. OR at an orthopedics conference where they were both presenting their work from graduate school. (depends on who you ask). After thriving through Covid together they knew this was real and we started planning all the things.

As Duke is near and dear to their hearts we captured their engagement between Sarah P. Duke Gardens and Duke Chapel. And all their wedding festivities were in and around Durham.

I initially met the rest of their family at the Mehndi ceremony at their home. It never ceases to overwhelm me as couples invite me into these sacred and life giving moments in their lives. Their families were already familiar with each other and blended easily as her family taught his, with great love, the meaning behind each moment.

A Mehndi is a way of wishing the couple health and prosperity as they make the next step into marriage but I love how it forces them to rely on the help of their friends and family to feed them, fix their hair, assist with potty breaks, shoe removal and communication. It forces them to slow down, not check their phone and simply be present with each other and their family while the henna dries.

I would love to see more of this for all my couples. Michael’s friends and family were certainly excited as they learned and experienced each new tradition.

As for their Haldi Ceremony, the celebrations continued and the familiarity with each others’ families grew. As each member gently and intentionally placed the turmeric and other spices on their bodies for wellness and good fortune, it quickly turned to a fun filled smearing of the yogurt and spices all over them to ensure the best wedding day “glow.” Everyone had a blast!

The wedding day welcomed more and more family and friends into the fold as they danced and laughed through each ritual and tradition. Michael and his crew had a blast celebrating his Baraat wedding entrance and her family greeted him with open arms.

Michael even included our very Southern tradition of burying the bourbon on the ceremony grounds and digging it up to ensure no rain on the wedding day. (it worked!) Both being proficient at ballroom dancing, they dazzled their guests during the reception and also tipped their hats to their NOLA beginnings and included a beignet truck instead of cake for their desserts!

You guys thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your big weekend!

Alex and Daniel's Wedding at the Oaks at Salem

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction
— Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Where to begin with these two? I need to start with Toni and Kim as I met Alex’s parents first, and I must say, I absolutely fell in love with them and wanted to adopt them immediately. We got to hang out at the Oaks a couple times during the planning process including an adorable video chat with Alex (on the West Coast) and I knew we would all be friends for life. The way they cared for each other and cared about every detail along the way was incredibly sweet. It was no surprise when I met Daniel and his parents on the wedding day, I loved them instantly as well. Everyone was so invested in this sweet couple. From running errands, to making sure they had drinks and getting hyped over chants and cheers for photos!

Thennnn came the first looks. I could barely see to keep shooting. Mom made sure she had each borrowed and blue item while Dad wiped her tears. Daniel left her speechless and then they were ready to party.

This crew did not disappoint. If I didn’t know any better I’d say every single one of them was a paid professional hype man. They brought all the excitement to the day and made sure these babes were overwhelmed with love. (not to mention SIX heartfelt speeches during dinner!)

What an incredible weekend Alex and Daniel!! Thank you so much for including me!! It was an honor to witness your love and vast friendships. You have an amazing group surrounding you.

Jamie and Drew's Wedding at Raleigh Union Station

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

Jamie and Drew’s mountain engagement was just the beginning for these sweet babes. The flowers Jamie used at their adorable session in West Jefferson as well as all the flowers for the big day were hand made by their sister -n-law Emily! SO unique! I highly recommend!! (Link at bottom)

What a weekend!! When I say this couple has made an impact on their community…

I mean the outpouring who showed up to celebrate them represented folks from all walks. I mean they hired myself and all their vendors specifically because we are LGBTQ+ allies, simply to make sure each and every guest felt welcomed and supported while attending their events.

I mean they were sure to include each and every child among their friends through a fun learning day before the wedding instead of a rehearsal. (think physics experiments, a train photo booth, balloon games and a mini ceremony just for the kids!)

The way their friends and family gushed over them through speeches and side conversations, through selfies and compliments was overwhelming. They are truly adored by everyone they know, as they should be. Both incredibly kind and genuine. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of the other, than each other.

Fun fact: Drew wore the same suit he wore the day they met. (Jamie was obviously a fan) ;)

They chose to begin the wedding day with cocktail hour so they could greet their guests and casually blend into the ceremony when the timing felt right.

Vicki flipped a coin to see who would recite their vows first (Drew) and they exited the stage right into their first dance. Their guests went wild of course.

We could NOT have been more extatic to find the rain had finally stopped the moment they completed their dance so we rushed outside and captured tons of fun Just Married moments. And while the rain wasn’t fun for set up and tear down, it did not dampen one single moment of the day. Raleigh Union Station has so many incredible backdrops for photo ops, the weather is nearly irrelevant.

Their table decor consised of every travel item they own as well as every letter written to each other while dating. Most from various states as Jamie biked across the country. Additionally they entertained their guests with swing dancing lessons, a penny press and plenty of photo ops!

After the sun had set, we chose to play around with the unique spaces inside Raleigh Union Station. Between the various backdrops and unique lighting, we were not disappointed. It was quite the day and I would do it again anytime! Thank you so much for trusting me with your memories Jamie and Drew!! Love you both!!

Emma and Christian's Wedding at The Barn on New River

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

I met Emma and Christian last year at the Married in the Mountains showcase at The Barn on New River and we hit it off right away. I could tell by they way they teased each other and were relaxed about the wedding details we’d be a great fit. They were excited about how they met through a common love of White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and couldn’t wait to gift honey jars to their guests becase they met on Bumble.

They chose not to have a first look with each other, but Emma did have a sweet first look with her dad and her bridesmaids before the ceremony while Christian poured bourbon for his fellas and helped wrangle the littles.

The Barn has a magnificent flower garden for portraits and we were so excited to utilize it before the reception started. Not to mention the ice cream cookie sandwiches from Blue Deer. ;)

The four by four ride to the top of the mountain for sunset photos is a highlight for every couple .Not just for the beauty of the photos, but for the chance to savor the day together. As much as you love each and every guest, no one compares to the one the day was created for to begin with. It was so sweet watching them play around together and talk about how the day had played out. When the Mustang arrived to pick them up, we had to create a few fun memories! Mindy and Oliver's Wedding at Appalachian View

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

I had so much fun getting to know these two cuties as we ventured around Charlotte for their engagement session. We started at Wooden Robot Brewery, where it all started for them, and casually strolled around to some of the popular spots like the Hearts Wall and anywhere we could squeeze in the Charlotte City Scape.

Fast forward to the wedding weekend, I joined them for a group hike with all their friends and family along the Tanawa Trail off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was such a fun way for all their guests to get to know each other before the big day, I highly recommend for all my adventurous babes!

For the rehearsal dinner Mindy wore her grandmother/mother’s wedding gown which she had modernized, so we made sure to create a few portraits with it the morning of the wedding. With the remaining lace from the dress she made a brooch for her mother and pocket squares for her brother and dad. Her mother also hand painted all the wedding invitations and she wore her grandmother’s bracelet.

For their wedding party they wanted only the best dogs they knew, Lexie and Frankie, who of course had joined us on the big hike the day before as well. They were certainly a crowd favorite :)

At the reception they incorporated teal glass insulators and money tree seed pods onto the table design. These were to honor her grandfather who was a line man electrician and also loved money trees. He had collected them both through the years and they were perfect for the reception tables.

In addition to their other fun reception festivities, they chose to do an Hora Loca with their friends and family. “The Crazy Hour” it is essentially a party within a party and everyone had a blast. Fun lights and hats and masks, it definitely adds another element to the day.

You guys we had SO much fun celebrating with you! Let’s do it again soon!

Katherine and Rob's Wedding at Sky Retreat

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime full of adventures
— Lewis Carroll #aliceinwonderland

When Katherine first messaged me, she said she found me through various instagram tags, and my work stood out as bright and colorful. I immediately knew we’d get along great because bright, bold colors are my favorite….and THEN she said their wedding date was my birthday! June 10th! What more could you ask for?!? I knew we were going to have way too much fun!

She and Rob were connected to both Raleigh and Boone, like me, so we decided to capture their engagement session in Raleigh since their wedding would be at Sky Retreat, one of my favorite Boone Venues. The JC Raulston Arboretum was sure to have plenty of color and I knew it would fit with with their adventurous side.

Fast forward to their big day! We had actually had multiple chats before hand as they navigated various mountain vendors and I was so excited to work with such an incredible team. Most of my couples resonate with my style in one way or another, but I swear Katherine and I could be the same person.

As her friends and family described her adventurous way, they also spoke of her excitement for life and great big feels. She was not shy with her tears, hugs or celebratory cheers! Further they described Rob’s perfect compliment to her personality through grounding; he balances her without holding her back. He might seem shy at first, but he was so comfortable in her presence, he was happy to share a cheers or a cigar, twirl her on the floor, surprise her with a dip and run through the sparklers twice!

You could simply feel the energy between them all day. They were both a big ball of nerves until the moment they saw each other and everything else fell away. When they finally had to chance to really embrace and share a moment together after the ceremony, she melted right into him and you could tell she was home.

I would celebrate with you two every weekend if I could! Thank you for including me in your big day! It was the happiest of birthdays!

Priya and Trevor's Indian-American Wedding at Brown Mountain Beach Resort

In the flush of love’s light
We dare be brave
And suddenly we see
That love costs all we are
And will ever be.
Yet it is only love which sets us free
— Dr. Maya Angelou

Who wouldn’t love the opportunity to wear three different gorgeous outfits at their happy wedding celebration?!? Anyone who knows my photography style, knows I LOVE bold colors and Indian ceremonies are notorious for their incredible colors. I was SO excited when Priya messaged to say my colors would show off their day best. She also wanted a team of “female boss babe vendors” because she knew we would get *ish done! Obviously I loved her immediately!

From the beginning we knew the timeline would be a little complicated with two ceremonies in one day but it was super fun exploring the options and the various ways Brown Mountain Beach could accommodate what they were looking for.

Her family was coming in from India and his mostly from Texas but because they currently live in NC, they wanted to highlight the beauty of our lovely state. She wanted mountains and he wanted the beach. They could not have chosen a better venue.

After the rehearsal Monday evening, everyone was delighted to celebrate with dancing at their Sangeet. For those unfamiliar with the term, the word “Sangeet “ means  music, or in this case, Music Night or Musical party. This musical night is a celebration of the union of not only the couple but the bonding of both families. It is here that both sides bring down their barriers and mingle in a fun environment. Everyone had so much fun!

Tuesday morning preparations finished with a first look between Priya and her sweet parents before she met her groom at the aisle. They exchanged a few sweet moments, raved over her dress and wished her many blessings.

Seriously though… this dress. You guys. Can all my future weddings PLEASE have this many colors!! I am obsessed!

They were adamant that this ceremony represent who they are as a couple, and not the typical patriarchal traditions that typically come with wedding ceremonies. They wrote most of the bi-lingual service themselves, incorporating a few traditions they loved and creating new ones at the same time. It was a beautiful testament to their strength as individuals and as a newly bonded couple.

With the first ceremony in the books, everyone took a lunch break then changed outfits for the American ceremony. Trevor and Priya shared a first look this time and after solidifying their vows a second time, had fun with their wedding party and relaxed for the rest of the evening, full to the brim with the love of their blended families.

It was an absolute honor to be included in your big day you guys!! Let’s do it again soon! ;)

Taylor and Josh's Wedding at Ashton Gardens

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.
— Dr. Seuss

I feel like I’ve known this sweet family my whole life at this point, but I suppose the photography element began a couple years ago at Lauren and Brady’s wedding in Georgia. There I had stayed in the big house with the family while capturing all the things through the weekend and I met Brianna! Bri and I hit it off right away of course, and she wanted me to come out to Colorado the following year to capture her and Niko’s wedding! Yes please!

\While staying with the fam through the festivities and carpooling back and forth through the various Colorado events, I had several long chats with Josh and Taylor who weren’t engaged *yet, but I quickly became privy to the exciting Disney proposal that was to soon follow! I was so excited when they messaged with the official good news and asked me to come back to Georgia for their big day!

Ashton Gardens was the perfect venue for these two. With most activities indoors it allowed for sweltering Georgia heat, or rain… and since we had more than enough of the latter, everyone was thrilled to be indoors. The venue has a gorgeous ceremony space and an incredible entrance staircase to the reception so we were sure to utilize every square inch.

During the rehearsal Taylor received a special gift of photos of her late grandparents and it was so special to see her tie them to her bouquet in order to have them by her side all day. That along with the special bracelets from her mom and sisters perfected her incredible gown.

The fellas, of course, had a fun morning between the barber, the Jack and their matching sunglasses, while the ladies sipped mimosas and raved over the bouquets that matched each of their unique dresses. Taylor chose to do a first look with the dads and groomsmen so by the time the ceremony started, Josh was the only person in the party who hadn’t seen his lovely bride and the anticipation was building fast! He could not have been more pleased of course!

After the tears began during the ceremony, they made several comebacks throughout the night as they both are close to their families and the parent dances had everyone crying (including me!) That, coupled with the heartfelt toasts from their siblings, we were all filled to the brim with joy for these two sweet souls.

Thank you so much for including me you guys! You are both so very kind and wonderful together. I am honored to know you and cannot wait to see what else is in the future!

Sarah and Matt's Wedding at Weaver House

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
Tale as old as time. True as it can be. Barely even friends, then somebody bends unexpectedly
— Beauty and the Beast

I loved listening to Matt and Sarah’s friends reminisce about this love story built on friendship. How they were hanging out again, but were only “friends.” How they were meeting each others’ families, but were only “friends.” How everyone should come to this fun party at Weaver House this weekend because somehow friends became more than friends and they’re ready to celebrate!

And there isn’t a crew out there who was more excited than these guys! Armed with all the best college, family and work stories, white claws and good vibes, everyone showed up and helped Sarah and Matt celebrate in style!

Sarah is a huge Disney Fan (peep her Cinderella Shoes!) and Matthew is a Star Wars fanatic, so naturally they appreciate each others’ excitement. They spent a mini-moon in Asheville prior to venturing down to Orlando for a few days to enjoy their 'happy place' at the most magical place on earth and I cannot wait to hear all about it!

I could tell right away both their families already loved each other. From all the hugs at the rehearsal to the moms choosing to walk each other in the ceremony to the newly formed secret hand shake from both their dads at the reception, they were already family and just there to celebrate!

My goodness, I could not have chosen a better wedding to end out the season! I haven’t known Sarah long, but we only needed five minutes to become instant besties. Then I got to stay with her night before the wedding and we rocked an absolute total girls night shenanigan fest with Wedding Crashers, white claws and life stories followed by calming yoga before the big day began. We had so much fun! I would not have missed this day for anything! Thank you so much for inviting me into your incredible family you guys! Love you so much!

Shelby and Brandon's Wedding at ZincHouse Winery

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola

It is so surreal when the teens I worked with over a decade ago who became senior photo sessions in my early years as a photographer eventually come full circle to inviting me to celebrate with them on their best day ever! I have known and loved Brandon’s family for ages it seems, and my heart leaped for joy when he called to tell me he had found the one! We jumped straight to proposal planning, engagement session and potentially backyard wedding prep as he and Shelby tried to determine if they’d like to own a wedding venue themselves. After walking the land together it became clear it’d be a little too stressful to get everything prepped for their big day, but I’m so excited to see how it comes to fruition for them in the future!

They were a dream to work with on their engagement session on the parkway, getting up before sunrise to hike Rough Ridge for the golden hour glow. We had so much fun catching up and I knew the big day was going to be a blast!

Shelby and Brandon discovered a new venue in Raleigh still setting everything up to host weddings and they were excited to help them figure things out for their big day since owning a venue is a dream of theirs for the future. They were not disappointed, ZincHouse had everything ready just in time and made sure every aspect of their day was flawless.

They chose to do a private first look so they could share their personal vows to each other. We were all a mushy mess after that but it was totally worth it. These two love each other with all their hearts and it was so precious to watch them share this moment.

Of course the rest of their day with all their closest friends and family was super fun and life giving to all involved. They are dearly loved by their families and their collective bond runs deep.

It was such an honor to be a part of your day Brandon and Shelby! Thank you so much for including me! Love you both!

Brooke and Kayla's Wedding at Overlook Barn

Wedding PhotographyCynthia Viola
Too much of a good thing can be wonderful
— Mae West

Rainbow everything! Donuts, shoes, purses, flags and explosives! Give me alllll the color!

I have had the pleasure of getting to know these two babes over the past year with two different surprise proposals and have been anticipating this happy day from the beginning! That excitement amplified tenfold when I walked into Overlook Barn and Megan, the coordinator handed me a box labeled ‘explosives’ that she was instructed to “give to Cynthia, she’ll know what to do.” Bring it on.

I started reading the instructions and these simple "smoke bombs” made it seem like we were about to go to war. We apparently needed gloves, face masks, fire extinguishers and the fire department on stand by just in case. Luckily we had just that! Half the fire department was, in fact, in attendance as guests and we had a whole crew of vendors and wedding party at the ready to make this magic happen. I don’t think one single person was upset about it. ;)

Que the tears! Little Dexter has been a part of their journey together from the beginning and always wants to be included when rings or other gifts are being exchanged. So they gave him a promise ring to wear around his neck during the ceremony and promised to raise him with all the love they possess. The entire crowd began weeping of course. These three are surrounded by love on all sides and you could feel it as they greeted each guest and relived all their happy memories together.

We originally planned to sneak them out of the reception after all the “important” moments like the first dance and cake cutting to do these smoke bomb photos. Brooke and Kayla knew these colorful bombs might not go as planned and their beautiful white attire might not be white afterwards. However I realized the sun was “setting” earlier behind the mountain than we anticipated and we needed to squeeze in this moment before they started the reception so we could get that incredible glowy sunset light. They didn’t pause for a second, they just said they trusted me, grabbed their flag and we went for it! These are now possibly my favorite photos ever! So grateful for the whole wedding party and The Elegant Event and Overlook Barn crew who jumped at the chance to make these rainbow dreams come true!

I would not have missed this day for the world! Thank you so much for including us!! Love you guys!
